Charity Spotlight - Accumulate
The Art School for the Homeless
Accumulate is charity which provides creative workshops to young people who are homeless and living in hostels and temporary accommodation in London.
For the people that Accumulate helps, a safe place to call home is out of reach. Living in hostels or temporary accommodation, the negative effects of isolation and loneliness on mental wellbeing can only increase the anxiety and extreme vulnerability felt in what is an already incredibly stressful and uncertain situation.
A Creative Community
One of the ways they have been helping their community is by sending out Art Kits by post. It is a simple solution but Accumulate have had incredibly positive feedback so far with participants sharing their artwork digitally and mutually supporting each other. They are now experiencing increasing demand to send out more art kits and provide digital training to hostel residents which will enable more homeless people to become involved and so improve their mental health and well being at this critical time.
How can you help?
Do Some Good are looking to source funding for 100 free Art Kits, with 20 donated so far. Each kit costs £10 and last for a couple of weeks. Every donation will go a long way to help a young person facing homelessness during this time to connect with others, gain confidence and improve their wellbeing.
“Accumulate Art Kit received. Really blessed because I need to distract myself from mental health problems and art is helping me to do this.” – Accumulate participant
